Episode iV … a New purpose
April 26, 2019
After a long, hard winter of convalescing (and about 75,000mg of RSO), the band is re-emerging, full phoenix-style, up from the ashes with a WHOLE NEW LINEUP!!!! NATE MARTEL (lv/g) and MONTE ARNSTAM (d/v) from local legends Outer Stylie have joined the Purpose! All new original music is ALREADY HAPPENING! See it in all it’s glory on MAY 3rd at Bishop’s Lounge in Northampton, MA…HEALING IS OUR GAME, BABIES… And the time gettin’ tight !
Shit got real…
January 30, 2019
Our fearless frontman, Brother Sal, has taken the band’s name a little too far. In October, he was diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer. An intensive RSO regiment is underway, and he’s feeling strong and groovy and positive. By no means is this the end, true believers! The band is hard at work on some new material for the spring, and a slew of new shows and venues right around the corner. So let’s all send those medicinal vibes this way, and let’s kill that weak-ass cancer shit and resume the rocking and rolling…

The bucket list just got smaller. A beautiful night we had, celebrating Jimi Hendrix at Hawks & Reed PAC in Greenfield, MA . The fabulous artist/photographer Nona Hatay put on an all-Jimi art show, featuring her iconic photos of the main man, plus performances by The Medicinal Purpose and Vernon Reid's Band of Gypsys Revisited. Super-cool cats, they is. We were joined by the legendary conga man Juma Sultan (live with Jimi at Woodstock! and on the studio version of Freedom) on Freedom, which pretty much blew all our minds. We're getting to the good stuff, people... Get healed !
March 31, 2018
This year is really shaping up. We had some beautiful shows already - Hawks & Reed PAC with Beau Sasser, Ilana Morris and Courtney Parker joining in, The Stanhope House with Papa Chubby was a killer - and we have more in store! Beau will be back on keys with us at Fitzwilly's in Northampton, MA on 4/6, and we have a special Hendrix treat with Nona Hatay (!) coming up on 5/18 in Greenfield. ( We hear Vernon Reid's Band of Gypsys Revisited will be headlining!) Thank you all for helping with the healing, and let's keep it going....
